I began doing triathlons in 2009 on a dare from my friend who said, "I bet you cannot finish a triathlon"..challenge accepted. I had never swam a lap in my life, didn't own a bike and hated running. I signed up for an Olympic distance race (didn't know there were different distances) and finished dead last - but finished. After I laid on the ground for a few minutes, I decided I would NEVER do that again. About 15 minutes after that I was in my car deciding where I could get faster and my life changed from that moment.
I am sure many endurance athletes have similar stories about how they started in the sport.
